A model of non-perturbative gluon emission in an initial state parton shower

چکیده
We consider a model of transverse momentum production in which nonperturbative smearing takes place throughout the perturbative evolution, by a simple modification to an initial state parton shower algorithm. Using this as the important non-perturbative ingredient, we get a good fit to data over a wide range of energy. Combining it with the non-perturbative masses and cutoffs that are a feature of conventional parton showers also leads to a reasonable fit. We discuss the extrapolation to the LHC.

The models recently proposed by Buchmüller [1] and Ingelman [2] to describe rapidity gap events in DIS at HERA are both based on the assumption of additional colour exchange between the struck system and the proton remnant in boson-gluon fusion events. In this way the struck system may become colour singlet and a rapidity gap may be formed between it and the remnant. In both models, the colour ...
متن کاملNon-Markovian Monte Carlo Algorithm for the Constrained Markovian Evolution in QCD
We revisit the challenging problem of finding an efficient Monte Carlo (MC) algorithm solving the constrained evolution equations for the initial-state QCD radiation. The type of the parton (quark, gluon) and the energy fraction x of the parton exiting emission chain (entering hard process) are predefined, i.e. constrained throughout the evolution. Such a constraint is mandatory for any realist...
متن کاملQCD Radiation off Heavy Particles
An algorithm for an improved description of final-state QCD radiation is introduced. It is matched to the first-order matrix elements for gluon emission in a host of decays, for processes within the Standard Model and the Minimal Supersymmetric extension thereof. The objective of this article is to summarize the improved description of parton shower evolution [1] recently introduced starting wi...
متن کاملMultiple parton emission effects in next-to-leading-order direct photon production.
A recent global analysis of direct photon production at hadron collider and fixed target experiments has noted a disturbing trend of disagreement between next-to-leading-order (NLO) calculations and data. The conjecture has been made that the discrepancy is due to explicit multiple parton emission effects which are not accounted for in the theoretical calculations. We investigate this problem b...
